EHV-1 (Herpes) PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Due to the current equine herpes type -I neurological outbreak, it has been recommended by senior veterinarians that owners take steps top prevent EHV-I infection in their horses.
There is no effective treatment once a horse has been infected with the neurological form. It is suggested that disinfecting shared equipment, such as water and feed, buckets, bits & lip chains may reduce the risk of transmitting EHV-1 between horses.
It is also recommended to maintain appropriate vaccination procedures in an attempt to reduce the incidence of the respiratory form of EHV-1 infection; this may help prevent the neurological form.
8-2005

The viral disease EEE much like West Nile Virus is spreading through mosquitoes.
